By Adrienne Johnston, president and CEO of CareerSource Florida
November is National Veterans and Military Families Month — a time to recognize the selfless service and courage of our nation's veterans. Home to nearly 1.4 million former service members, Florida has the second largest veteran population and has earned a reputation as one of the most veteran-friendly states in the nation.
Florida continues to lead the way with impressive achievements including:
- #1 Economy by U.S. News & World Report in 2024 and 2025, and by CNBC for three consecutive years
- #1 in Higher Education by U.S. News & World Report for nine consecutive years
- #1 in New Business Formations since 2019, with more than 3.7 million new businesses formed in that time
- #1 State for Talent Attraction by Lightcast for three consecutive years
As president and CEO of CareerSource Florida, I know these rankings are more than just numbers: They represent real opportunities for Florida families and military veterans. They demonstrate a deep-rooted commitment to giving back to those who have given so much, supporting our veterans at every step of their transition back into civilian life.
With 21 local workforce development boards and more than 100 career centers across the state, we partner with businesses, educators and government agencies to expand opportunities for veteran training and employment. Our network has built the infrastructure to meet the needs of both businesses and job-seeking veterans by translating military experience into civilian opportunities.

Across the CareerSource Florida network, priority of service for veterans isn't just a principle — it's a promise. In honoring their sacrifice for our nation, we also recognize the challenges many veterans face when transitioning to civilian employment. Our network is uniquely positioned to help address those barriers with empathy, expertise and fast action.
Through strategic initiatives, targeted funding such as Get There Faster Veterans Grants, and enhanced scholarships, we're equipping veterans with the tools, training and support they need to build strong, resilient futures.
If you've served in the military and are ready to take the next step in your career journey, we invite you to join us at any of our Paychecks for Patriots events — a statewide hiring initiative dedicated to connecting veterans and military families with meaningful employment opportunities.

This year, CareerSource Florida is proud to partner with Hope Florida to provide on-site support at Paychecks for Patriots events. Through this collaboration, participants gain direct access to comprehensive wraparound services — including housing, healthcare, transportation and more — while exploring career pathways that align with their skills and aspirations.
This is more than a hiring event. It's a commitment to ensuring those who've served our country have the tools, resources and opportunities to thrive in civilian life. Our integrated support model ensures attendees leave not only with promising job leads, but with connections to essential services that foster long-term stability and a fulfilling future.
Events will be held throughout November across the CareerSource Florida network. Make plans to attend and discover what's possible in your post-military career.
