Easter Trend Report: Find Out Texans' Favorite Easter Eats by City

Provided by: Brandpoint - March 25, 2024

Spring has sprung! And along with the brighter, warmer days, many look forward to celebrating Easter — an ideal time to gather with family and friends to enjoy each other’s company and a delicious meal together. Not every celebration is the same, so this Easter, Shipt, the retail technology company providing delight with every same-day delivery, asked Texans what their Easter meal traditions look like to uncover trends and popular favorites for meals, side dishes, top flavors and more.

Here are some of the surprising, and not-so-surprising, survey results:

Ham it up — Step aside, beef and turkey, as Easter's meal hero is clearly ham. According to the new data from Shipt, 32% of Texans prefer to serve and eat a traditional honey baked ham, making it the top Texas Easter favorite. Other top Easter Sunday meal contenders include barbecue ribs and fajitas that bring in heat and extra flavor.

Gen Z wants fajitas — Gen Z has a reputation for bucking tradition, and their preference for an Easter main dish is no exception. Texans between the ages of 18-24 picked fajitas as their top choice over the holiday classic honey baked ham to headline their Easter spread.

Start from scratch — Over half of Texans (65%) surveyed agree that dishes on Easter Sunday should be homemade (but don't want to spend the whole day preparing the meal), with one-third of Texans (32%) going as far as saying that Easter is "ruined" if the main dish isn't made from scratch.

Have an egg-cellent Easter — The sides reign supreme at any holiday meal, so make sure to enjoy everything else that's on your Easter table this year. According to Texans, deviled eggs are the number one must-have for any Easter spread, while they could do without the asparagus. One exception was in Houston, where nearly 26% say they prefer mac and cheese to deviled eggs. Potato salad rounds out the top three favorite sides in the state.

Spice up Easter Sunday — For most Texans, it's all about the seasonings — with over half (55%) reporting that they use 3-4 seasonings for their Easter meal. But more surprisingly, there ARE some Texans (3%) claiming to use zero seasonings for their celebratory feast this Easter.

Easter Sunday sweet tooth — While the spring holiday may be best known for its colorful baskets filled to the brim with candy, don't forget to offer a sweet treat at the table as well! The Shipt survey found carrot cake to be the #1 dessert pick among Texans, followed by pecan pie and peach cobbler.

Candy chaos — Despite all of the tasty homemade Easter Sunday dishes spread on the table, a majority of Texans (51%) still consider the candy to be their favorite thing to eat on the kid-friendly holiday.

Make Easter shopping easier — When asked how they'll shop for groceries, 6 in 10 survey respondents in Texas say they'll make a trek to the grocery store, while nearly one quarter (23%) say they will use a grocery delivery service.
